Jake is very knowledgeable, professional, and has an excellent eye for details. Stout did a complete tear off of an existing roof which had failed due to poor and fraudulent workmanship from a prior company. Vapor barrier was placed on top of all new plywood, then 4" and 1" rigid insulation to eliminate ponding. I now have an insulation rating near 40 and will no longer worry about leaks or ponding water. The new roof looks amazing and exceeds all my expectations!

I'm pretty particular about my John Buchan home and I feel I lucked out by finding a company that met my needs and was the best price. Replaced aging cedar shake roof with composite of my choosing, replaced the furnace/water heater vent, installed new honeycomb roof-to-wall vents and a powered attic vent, installed new plywood, and installed Presidential TL shingles in perfect alignment.

Stout was a very professional company from start to finish. The administrator, Amanda, was outstanding from the first phone call through the final checkpoint, making sure that everything had gone well and that we were happy with the new roof. We were going from an old shingle roof to a composite roof, and there were decisions to be made about grade of composite, color, and weight. The whole process was easy and painless.
Jake was very professional in regards to this very complex project. He gave us a bid for the product we wanted, quoted us a time frame for completion and kept to schedule. Replace plywood and shingles on a single-story 2100 sq ft house. We got 5 bids for this project and they were all remarkably similar — roofs are expensive. The owner came out for the bid (not a salesman). We liked Jake's straightforward but knowledgeable manner without a lot of marketing. They did the tear off, deck replacement, and shingles in 2.5 days. Incredibly fast! They took care to replace and paint all protrusions; roof looks great. It was super easy working with them, no drama at all. Their carpenter also did some work shoring up a covered walkway and did an amazing job.
The roof on my rental property was the original mid-60's roof and developed a major leak. I called him and left a message; he called back right away and happened to be close to my house. He got right over there and had an estimate emailed to me that night. His price including the Angie's List discount was the best I'd received. Removed 1 layer composition shingle roof, replaced 2 sheets of plywood, replaced rotted fascia and eaves, replaced 3 skylights, and installed a new composite roof using CertainTeed Landmark shingles (approx 30 squares) on a mid-60's rambler.
I received a number of estimates, all in the same ballpark for price. I went with Jake Stout because he did not try to upsell to a more expensive product and was straightforward in discussing vent options, flashing, and other items. He was very low-key in his approach and flexible about coordinating with other contractors. Stout provided a new roof to our recently purchased 1931 Tudor home, including tear-off of multiple layers, peak vents, roof jacks, drip edges, flashing, and valleys. Most of the roof is 12/12 pitch, with some 12/24 (really steep!) sections.
Stout Roofing put a new roof on my 4-plex apartment building and carport. They emailed me a very informative and professional presentation which was very complete and well organized. I feel they did a professional roofing job. The only reason I gave them a B on a couple of issues was because they originally quoted a 2-3 day turnaround and it ended up being about a 5 day turnaround (2 of those days were a Sunday and a holiday). Their price was competitive; it was the thoroughness in describing the scope of work that won me over. I would hire them again.
Excellent!! Used drop cloths to catch debris, cleaned up nails and scrap. Contractor brought in a large dumpster and provided all the materials. Job took a week with 5 men. All were hard workers and very polite. I paid 1/2 up front, mostly for materials, the balance was paid upon satisfactory completion of the job. No leaks and the house looks terrific. Replaced 22 year old cedar shake with high end lifetime presidential composite shingles — ripped off the shingles and roofing paper, installed 102 sheets of plywood, re-installed new roofing paper, sheet metal, vents, and then the shingles.
The entire process went great from my initial contact with Jake to the very end. I do a lot of communication via email and was very happy that Jake checked and responded to his email often. We didn't have to play phone tag for days. The crew was always very kind and respectful of our home and children. They clearly worked hard to get the job done in the time period estimated but didn't rush or cut corners. I had a 20 year old cedar shake roof that needed replacing. We selected composition shingles. Work was completed in two days and the finished roof looks absolutely great!! The crew was pleasant, helpful in explaining what they were doing, careful around the shrubs, and very meticulous in their workmanship. Removed existing cedar shake roof and installed a new composition shingle roof (approx 31 squares), including a continuous ridge vent system and 17 new soffit vents. All flashing and plumbing vents were painted to match the roof color.
Stout's crew arrived on time and weren't daunted by their material being unable to get all the way up to our house. They completed the project within a week. When we complained about debris from the old roof blocking our front door, Stout had people there at 6 AM to clear up the problem. Stout did a complete reroofing of our house — stripping off the existing asphalt shingle roof, replacing water-damaged sheathing, installing new composite shingles, redoing valleys and gutters, installing ridge vents, and replacing two skylights.
5 men showed up with Jake Stout and worked from 8:30AM to 7:30PM for several days. Jake's foreman was in charge of the crew. They all appeared experienced and knew what they were doing. Tarps were laid out around the house to catch debris. They were careful not to crush my plants. I marveled at the ease at which they carried heavy plywood sheets up the ladders. Complete re-roofing of my house — removed shakes, laid down over 100 sheets of 4x8 plywood, then covered it with lifetime thick architectural composite shingles.
I selected Stout Roofing after our roof developed a leak right at the end of the summer. They were really responsive and were able to get someone out to the house and put tarps on the leaking area before it rained. Jake was also really helpful when it came to choosing the appropriate roofing material. Replace roof on 1700 sq ft home, remove existing roofing materials and install new underlay and asphalt tiles. Replace skylight in roof. Remove second skylight above porch. Replace venting and chimney stacks to code.

We still love our new roof that was done over a year ago. A professional and great working crew were at our place for five days. Thank you for a great job done! The workers were highly skilled and came up with ideas on how to treat previous trouble areas. A full replacement roof — our two story house had an extended three car garage and a separate shop garage with an extended cover area, estimated at three times the normal roof area. We have a difficult roof that is very steep in its pitch with six dormers.
The ratings for Stout Roofing would have been all A's in July when we had the roof replaced. Jake's attention to detail was evident during his walk around when he noticed that the bathroom fan had never been vented properly. His quote was prompt and complete. The project was scheduled without delay. The dumpster arrived one day, and the next morning the tear off began. Tore off and replaced roof, replaced skylight and added fascia, provided materials for storage shed re-roof, removed and replaced gutters.
I have a hectic schedule and they worked with me to drop off roofing samples. They gave me good ideas — I was going to have them refinish my front door and they suggested just replacing it, which looked much better and turned out cheaper. Stout Roofing replaced my roof for the best price of all the other estimates I received. They did an excellent job. I also hired them for other work including power washing the house and driveway, replacing the back deck, repairing the front porch and building a fence.
Work was executed quickly and on time. Weather can be a problem this time of year and care was taken to minimize exposure through careful execution scheduling and some work in the rain. The guys were really flexible to work with and responded to my questions and comments without hesitation. Great care was also taken around our manicured gardens to protect plants and soil. Tear off and replacement of 50% of the main house roof and complete tear off and replacement of a garage roof with new sheathing.
Weather made scheduling and completion of work a challenge, however Stout completed the work as weather windows allowed. Workers were on time and completed the work efficiently and professionally. Very satisfied with the finished project. Appreciated the effort of the carpenter who went out of his way to take ownership of a number of items. I would not have believed that anyone could completely replace our roof between Monday and Friday. Stout Roofing did, and they did a good job, too. On the first day the gigantic dumpster arrived and they ripped off the old cedar shakes. They put down a layer of plywood skip sheeting and applied the composite over that. They had a large team that worked efficiently and professionally. Stout took off our aged cedar shake roof and replaced it with CertainTeed Presidential Shake TL composite roofing.
The owner came out and gave me an estimate, which he delivered by email within 24 hours (everyone else took a week — why?). The crew was extremely professional. Everyone spoke English and was considerate. I didn't hear a single curse word or find a single cigarette butt. Stout did a complete tear off of an existing torchdown roof and replaced all of the decking and installed a new torchdown roof system with integral gutters. They also installed ceiling insulation while the roof decking was off.
His one visit took care of the small problems that needed addressing, without having to make other appointments. Jake was asked to give a bid on roof repairs on two fourplexes adjacent to each other, on a two-layer roof with various small problems. He fixed the problems while he was there, and gave us a clean bill of health where 1-2 other companies had said we needed costlier repairs. The estimator did a thorough inspection and returned a complete itemized quote. The installation team worked very quickly to remove the old roof and install plywood deck and underlayment in one day. They returned the next day and installed flashing and shingles. Very clean and professional. Jake Stout returned the following week to repair a couple of minor defects that we spotted and one that he found. Replaced a 30 year old cedar shake roof, gable, dormer and mud room.

The job began in good weather and then the weather deteriorated into the worst weekend of weather we have had in years. High winds and pounding rain — not what you want with your roof torn off and covered with plywood and tar paper. Very conscientious, vigilant about the weather conditions. They matched the pattern so well and cleaned up so well that I had to call them to ask if they had done the work. They were slightly more pricey than the competitor, but they were a better company. He did some repair work to the roof. We asked them for a full roof, but they didn't think we needed it.
It went great! The owner himself came out to give me a quote. He got the quote back to me the next day and scheduled the job to start just 2 weeks later. The quote was a fair bit cheaper than the other estimates I got while using the same exact composite shingles and identical venting and flashing. We had a couple of leaks at a rental house of ours and after several patches with another company to no avail (and already $700), we called Stout Roofing. Jake responded right away, advised me that the best course was to replace the roof on the back half of the house and that the front was just fine. Our experience with Stout Roofing was amazing. Jake was prompt in scheduling the initial visit to review the project and provide an estimate. Time spent with Jake was well spent. They are fabulous. It was not an easy job and they came in at exactly what they said they would do it for. They kept everything clean. I have some large dogs, and they were very careful not to let my dogs out. We had requested no loud music while they were working, and they didn't. They put a brand new roof on our house — it has a very complicated roof-line with a lot of pitches. In addition, they put in a couple of solar tube lights for me.

Actually, there's not much to say about the roofing project — which is a good thing. The drop-off guys came in two days prior to the project kick-off date and collected the garbage bin two days after. Crews on-site are professional and quiet — not much conversation but worked as hard as other customers said on Angie's List. I asked for a walk-through with Mr. Stout after the project was done. Solid work and good communication.

They are all great people, their work is always very neat and very clean. They have actually done work on our house while we were not home, and we didn't even know that they were here. We have never even found one piece of material in the yard after they did the work.
Excellent job. After contacting about 7 other companies, and after meeting with Jake Stout, it took no time to make a decision. Stout did everything right, from keeping us informed to the actual installation. They secured all the windows and plant material (we have a lot), the job went so smoothly with absolutely no damage or mess whatsoever, and best of all, they cleaned up every day. I thought that they did a good high quality job and they cleaned up after themselves. The product that they delivered was superior. I do not have anything to complain about. What it cost was what they said it would. The price was competitive. They were very professional. Stout Roofing replaced our entire roof — they pulled off our old roof, put new plywood down, and topped that with good high quality asphalt shingles.
Overdue review of Stout Roofing. They replaced our first roof in 2001. We were selling our house with its dilapidated cedar shake roof, and the buyers wanted new composite. Their bid was competitive, they showed up promptly, kept the worksite finicky-neat, and finished on time. Our next-door neighbors commented that they were polite and respectful and very careful workers, and then they used them too. Replaced roof.
Get a bid from these guys — they saved us thousands, and did a great job! Our roof is very large and has several very steep sections. We knew the brand of roofing tiles we wanted (CertainTeed), and got bids from three of Angie's List's "A" roofers, including one that came highly recommended by a friend. Stout's bid was more than $5,000 lower than the other two — for the exact same tiles. Complete roof replacement.
The project was performed according to contract and the final cost was equal to the amount bid. Jake Stout and his crew were very professional from start to finish. The 6-man crew completed the job in 2 days and did a thorough cleanup. Everything went as expected or better. Replaced old shake roof with new top-quality composition shingle roof, replaced torch-down roofing over one valley, and replaced 3 skylights.
From the bidding process through to completion and follow-up, Stout was a professional. Great company to work with. One point about the bidding process: when Jake Stout came to give us a bid, he put a ladder up, climbed onto the roof, and inspected the entire structure. To us, that's important. We live in a townhome/duplex structure and needed the entire roof replaced on both halves. Stout offered the best bid.
We have used Stout Roofing previously for a complete tear off and reconstruction of our pitched roof. They were excellent at that time. Over the years, we have had him come by to keep an eye on our troublesome flat roof segments. He had ample opportunity to recommend an early (premature) fix, however he held off until the timing was completely appropriate (a big plus). Reroofed flat roof sections of our house.

The rain came in on a Sunday morning (unexpected rain) and one of his crew men came out to finish something so the rain wouldn't damage the new roof. I would highly recommend.

We hired Stout Roofing to replace the roof on our rambler. I was pleased to meet Jake Stout when he came to my residence to do an inspection and discuss the concerns I had. I asked for a few small changes such as the installation of some bathroom ceiling fan flapper vents, and the removal of a solar attic vent fan and patching its hole. Their pricing was extremely competitive and right in our budget.
I am completely happy with the new roof. I found a list of shortcuts on the web that some roofers use and Stout did not do any of them. We requested four bids and Jake was the first to respond. All bids were close in price and about four weeks out. When we decided on Stout, Jake said they had an unexpected opening and could start the next day. The next day, a shingle supplier showed up at 8:00 sharp.
Responded quickly to my request for an estimate for roof and gutter replacement. Received the estimate within 24 hours. I indicated that a loose scheduling time period would work due to weather issues. Reroofed my house including removal of old shingles and haul away, repairing damaged plywood, flashing around the chimney, and cleaning and fixing old gutters that were hanging off in a few areas.
Jake came to our house to do an estimate and he finished the work 100% within budget and estimate. The roof plywood was buckled up and needed some repair, plus cracks near the chimney area; he fixed the trim on one skylight and replaced another one. Total days taken was around 3. I am very pleased with the final result. Jake is also very honest in his assessment.
Jake and his team were great. He met with me twice, and was very creative in adapting to our needs, and the needs of our house. He's tuned into current technologies, and gave good advice about what would be best. He also connected us with a good contractor to get a gutter replaced. Jake's team on the site was terrific. They worked very fast and were of good cheer. They cleaned up every day.
Went well, even though the work was performed mid-winter. Workmanship was great, cleanup was very good, and company President Jake Stout personally came by to inspect the results. We won't use them again because the roof will likely outlive us! But if we moved to a house that needed a new roof, we'd choose them. We received three estimates and all were close to one another. They were excellent. He was very responsive; we had a couple of bids out and he's the only one that called back. He ensured that the lawn was clean when they left, it was well done, the price was competitive, and they finished when they said they would. A little hard to get a hold of them on the phone but they showed up on time, did a wonderful job and did everything they could to keep the job reasonably priced. A very pleasant experience and this is a company that we will use again. They came out to give me an estimate and told me I did not need to replace everything, just the peak and do some repairs.
They tore off our old cedar shake roof and replaced it with Landmark TL shingles. It was a little tricky at first to get hold of Jake when we were getting bids, but he and his team were very communicative once the ball was rolling. We needed the roofers to coordinate with another company doing insulation work, and the roofers were very helpful. Re-roof with CertainTeed Landmark TL.
I had a roof leak "emergency". Mr. Stout came out right away. He checked the roof, found the problem and fixed it right then. He was professional and explained what had happened to cause the problem. I would recommend him and use him again myself. I found Stout Roofing on the List, with great marks. The roof leak was fixed to my satisfaction.
Jake was very professional in regards to this very complex project. He gave us a bid for the product we wanted, quoted us a time frame for completion and kept to schedule. He brought in three crews and our roofs were completed in a little over 4 weeks just as expected. The few call backs which we had after completion were done in a timely and professional manner. We found his workers to be very courteous. We needed 54 roofs replaced in our attached single family townhome project.
Our re-roofing went GREAT with Stout Roofing! We had called a different roofing company and were sorry we wasted our time — I think the height of the house with the turret room made his knees turn to jelly because he never called with his bid. Stout Roofing replaced our Victorian's composite roof with beautiful high-quality composite — and they did it very well.
They did a great job. Our roof looks beautiful and the skylight fit perfectly. They did a very good job of cleaning up after themselves. Two years later when we noticed we needed a rain water diverter, they came out at no charge to install it. This is the second time we hired Stout Roofing. We had our roof replaced and a new skylight installed.

I contacted a couple of roofing companies because I was concerned about an area around my chimney. Another company had come out and suggested doing repairs for $695. Jake Stout came out and said that the area was a concern but since it had been like that for 23 plus years it could certainly wait until the roof has to be totally re-done. Asked that he take a look at the roof around my chimney for a possible repair.
Going into this I was prepared for the best and the worst when picking a contractor to replace my roof. Jake Stout responded quickly and performed a very thorough estimate for replacement with composition shingles, including old roof tear-off and installation of the necessary plywood decking over the skip-sheeting base of the shake roof. Jake came out and gave me very helpful and detailed info about roofing. He gave me a bid after about a week and put me on the schedule, and the guys came as expected. They spent about a week and did an excellent job. They cleaned up carefully and with no damage. I had an old roof removed — 4 layers on most of it — and a new one put on. Additionally some roof venting was added to bring it up to current code.

Stout was a very professional company from start to finish. The cost of the roofing was as reasonable as any roof installation could be. The quality was really good. I am in a planned development and was told we are one of the last developments that require shake roofing because it is really expensive. I think they did a good job. The roof looks good and there are no holes in it. They removed the old roof, put on new roofing felt and put a new shake roof on.

What a breath of fresh air. I had a different company come out before I called Stout Roofing. They said I needed a new roof. I asked Stout for a second opinion. When Jake inspected the roof he determined that I did not need a new roof and fixed the leak. I was so impressed. He was friendly, professional and appeared to be someone that would be easy to work with.
The crew came as the weather would permit in January and completed the job in less than 2 days with a follow-up visit to install trim over the porch flashing, with a further follow-up to review the work for satisfaction and a carpenter to paint the trim to match the house.

Great, they were fast and responsive. It was a really small job but they came on time and did what they said they would do. I really appreciated that sort of customer service. The gutters were pulling away from the roof in places; they replaced the old short nails with screws and checked for dry rot due to the water flowing behind the gutters.
