RECYCLING YOUR ROOF

Stout Roofing was the first roofing company on the West Coast to begin large-scale recycling of old cedar shake roofs. When your old roof is removed by our crew, it is taken to a yard in Snohomish where the shakes are processed through a 250 horsepower hammermill. Any nails or other metals are extracted by magnetic conveyor and recycled. The remaining cedar shakes are ground down to a size which makes them an excellent source of fuel for the huge boilers at Kimberly Clark which are used to produce paper.

Stout has also worked with the Washington State Department of Transportation and Clean Washington to initiate the recycling of composition shingles into asphalt road base.

Our pioneering efforts haved saved both contractors and homeowners money, have helped extend the life expectancy of our landfills, and have resulted in an additional 2-3% more materials being recycled in King County.
